How to Make Your Home Totally Zen

As these stressful times make it increasingly hard to find tranquility in our lives, creating a peaceful haven in the comfort of our own home is one of the few options left. The word ‘Zen’ basically emphasizes meditation and a harmonious and relaxed way of living. And you can certainly apply the principles of Zen into your home to make it a soothing oasis.

Go to Earthy Colors
In order for your home to exude an aura of calmness, you need to have a relatively neutral and soft color palette. It is recommended that you choose earthy colors over the bolder and brighter shades that you may have favored in the past. After using those colors, you can then take advantage of a few accent colors to complement the more neutral tones – blues and greens work particularly well. Also, make sure to choose the palette that you think will work well throughout your home.

Choose Natural and Light Fabrics
Choose light and natural-colored fabrics for your home. This is one of the best ways to make a home totally Zen. The fabric and color of curtains not only reduce noise in a space, but they also tend to set up the mood. So, go for some natural fabrics such as wool or linen. Introduce comforting layers into your space by changing up the cushions on your couch or draping a throw by the sofa.

Play with Soft and Natural Light
A Zen home is one that is filled with a lot of natural light, so it is recommended that you do this for your home as much as possible. Harsh overhead lights are certainly not Zen. For a Zen home, you want all the lighting in your space to be soft and natural-looking, similar to your color palette. To achieve that, you can use lamps for lighting. Also, it would also be a good idea to put a few candles around the house as they add a romantic, mystical atmosphere to a space.

Enhance Your Room with Natural Scents
The natural scent in your home will instantly make you feel much more comfortable and relaxed. Certain scents also have additional anti-anxiety and calming benefits, which are great if you need to de-stress. You can certainly choose different scents for each room of your house. Some of the popular options include lavender, jasmine, and peppermint.

Bring in Calmness with Green Plants
Houseplants are an excellent way to add some Zen into a home. Not only do they give your home a Zen look, but they also make good natural air-purifiers. Place the plants at different corners of your house. These plants are said to bring harmony and good luck into a house. They create a calming atmosphere and lower your stress levels. Some of the common plants that you can choose for your home include English ivy, dragon tree, aloe vera, lucky bamboo plant, snake plant, and money plant.

At times like these, feeling a little more Zen is always helpful, which is why it’s worth spending some time making sure that your home exudes a relaxing and calm aura as much as possible. It doesn’t need to be complicated – just a few unique touches are enough to transform your home into a calming oasis.
